Moruya

The name Moruya is derived from an Aboriginal word meaning Home of the Black Swan.

Congo Crafts Gallery

congo craftsJust a 12 minute drive from Moruya, set in the magnificent Eurobodalla National Park, is a gallery and studios developed in harmony with this unique environment.

Although only a few kilometres from the Princes Highway, you’ll get the feel like you’re a million miles away.

Purpose built and established in 1980, Congo Crafts Gallery and studios has been in continuous operation ever since.

Only work created by the owners, artists Louise Megaloconomos and James Simms is displayed and sold here. With over 60 years combined experience in the arts, there is a maturity, confidence and quality found in their work.

You will be surprised by the diversity. Louise exhibits paintings on canvas and paper, prints, functional items woven on the four-shaft loom, wall-hangings, jewellery and tapestry weavings.

James produces stoneware ceramics with a range of glazing techniques – from brilliant copper reds to subtle matt finishes. Two kilns are used for firing, one gas-fired and the other wood-fired.

If you want to commission some work, just ask, and if the opening times don’t suit you, just call and arrange a time to your liking.
